(CBS News)

In an attack on the Obama administration and on government spending she decried as "reprehensible," GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann accused the administration Sunday of increasing the number of limousines employed for federal use by 73 percent in the last two years, suggesting it as evidence that President Obama is not committed to improving the economy.

Bachmann, speaking during a Sunday morning appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," produced the 73 percent figure when asked about whether or not cuts for farm subsidies should be on the table for Congressional negotiators seeking to cut the federal budget.

Schieffer also pressed Bachmann for a specific response to the question of whether or not she would, if president, decline to nominate a judge because he or she supported same-sex marriage.

"Would that be a litmus test for you, someone who was for same-sex marriage?" Schieffer asked Bachmann, who said earlier on the program that she believes marriage should be "between a man and a woman."

"I want people who are for the Constitution," she said. "That's my litmus test. I want judges who are committed to the fidelity of the Constitution."

"I have to say, I don't think you answered the question," Schieffer said, after making a second attempt to extract a direct answer.

My favorite; Do you support removing subsidies for farmers? " President and I want to spell as she said it, O-Baum -A has spent more on limos than any other President"........this is isn't what the American people want. No answer to the question except she not happy with the limo service. This is prime Presidental Material at this finest. This gets to the root of the American issues. This is who you would even fathom of having in the WH? Next thing, it'll be about the drapes, the tiles redone. It just never ends. She apparently does not like the President. She blames him for everything.

Every time she was pressed on the ligitamcy of statements she had made or asked to state a specific policy plank she defelected and did not answer directly. This does not bode well for the integrity of the bebate in the comming months.

"A lot of your critics say you have been very fast and loose with the truth," said Schieffer. "Politifact, which is a website that won a Pulitzer [Prize], did an analysis of 23 statements that you made recently. Of these 23, only one, they said, was completely true; seven they call 'pants on fire kind of falsehoods' - four were barely true, and two were half-true.

Hey, Michelle I got news for you, Obama did not spend more on limo's, it was the secret service that did. They had to get armored limo's due to the fact that, heaven forbid, if there was an assassination attempt on the presidents life. You, know like the one that happened in Dallas, in 1963.

Oh that's right, Teapartiers have there own distored view of history, and Elvis just left the building.

Also what is this babbling nonsense that you are going to announce your candidacy for Pres on Tues. , I thought that took place at the New Hampshire debate. I know you just wanted to make sure that everyone heard your intentions.

So her plan to create jobs and right the economy, driving it to heights never seen before is to restrict the federal executive employees from limo usage?

Gee, how could Geithner and Bernanke miss that? It's been right in front of our eyes all along.

Don't you people have jobs?

The funniest thing is that whenever Bachmann (and many other of the GOP's finest) play the distraction game, they always have "hard numbers" in their ridiculous fairy tales...

Do they really think that the people they are lying to won't be able to check these "statistics" they constantly provide (and constantly have proven as blatant LIES)?

The only people that takes these "facts" as the truth are their fellow "patriots" who believe any and all of the bull@!$%# that spews forth from their drooling cakeholes...

You have to admit, someone who was the beneficiary of "$251,000 in farm payments between 1995 and 2006" must have some answer to the question, "Do you support removing subsidies for farmers?"

Granted, it's a ridiculous answer, but...

Here's another crazy--and duplicitous--person to run for president in the rethuglicon radar. And the party wonders why is cannot be taken seriously by thinking people.

Limousines, the very symbol of wealth and excess, are usually the domain of corporate executives and the rich. But the number of limos owned by Uncle Sam increased by 73 percent during the first two years of the Obama administration, according to an analysis of records by iWatch News.

No not really you just have to read the fedreal govt report...they have a list that classifies specically for t the limousine category...maybe you could contact companies like Federal coach, Tiffany, Royale limousines, Krystal limousines, DaBryan, Laredo coachworks.....any of the QVC or CMC factory authorized vehicle modifiers and get that definition for yourself...the facts speak clearly,(from the GSA) there was a 73 percent increase in Limousine purchases from 2008 to 2010. When the Economy went down the orders rolled in.

The liar, Bachmann claimed that the Obama administration had increased the number of limos (remember, there is a rather broad definition of limos according to the GSA), not that the total had increased. That is a blatant falsehood. Notice that the bulk of the total increase came with the FY2009 budget signed by the failure from Texas. Of course, she wants you to believe that these are all stretch limos with the elite riding around in the back ignoring the poor. Sorry, they are not CEO types. In most cases they are SUVs such as Suburbans and Tahoes (aka limos) used for the FBI, DEA, ATF, ICE, DoD and State Dept. But that would ruin your hate fest.

Of course, that was also her answer to should we eliminate farm subsidies, something TEABaggers pretend to be against yet always vote for.

No it is not a broad definition ....better read the GSA report There is a standard set forth by the manufacture..Ford's is QVM and GM is CMC. Just because a vehicle is a Tahoe or Suburban does not make it a limousine... Bachmann is correct according to the GSA I know you dont want to admit it and you will fight math and facts til the end... In fact the federal govt haxs 77,433 SUV's in their fleet accounted for...please just get over your self...you know not what you speak of ..it is all in the GSA report...quit going Anthony W on us...we deserve better.

What Qualifies a Coachbuilder to Become a QVM?

To qualify as a QVM, a coachbuilder must be successfully evaluated by Ford Motor Company on criteria such as engineering, the manufacturing process, quality control, and adherence to Ford and Lincoln Divisions guidelines. Specifically, the QVM Program requires the following from coachbuilders:

Compliance with all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). To see a list of the types of items required to meet FMVSS click here.

Conformance with all Ford and Lincoln industry guidelines for vehicle conversions.

        Annual facility inspection and review.

        A commitment to continuous improvement

You cant just buy a SUV and call it a Limousine...sorry not going to fly

Hopefully this and the GSA report will put an end to this B.S.

The GSA does not define the term limousine as the auto companies do as you seem to have admitted when you said:

No it is not a broad definition ....better read the GSA report There is a standard set forth by the manufacture.

GSA spokeswoman Sara Merriam said, "The categories in the Fleet Report are overly broad, and the term 'limousine' is not defined," adding that "vehicles represented as limousines can range from protective duty vehicles to sedans."

But you won't believe that, anyway.

LOL... so the secret service had an increase of 73% because of the possibility of an assasination attempt. even funnier was that 28 people bumpbed this thought. i mean i would have bought something like "this administration is trying to be more formal", or "these limosines get better milage than the Escallades they are replacing...."

but to simply state that they are necessary for assassination attempts is just silliness.

generally though i dont give percentages much thought. i mean in increase of 73%. that means if there were 4 before he got into office, then there are 2 more and a third one almost done... big whoopi...

The GSA Breaks down vehicle types into 10 different categories for passenger vehicles alone.

and lets us not forget the other categories.....

          "Light Trucks""Medium Trucks""Heavy Trucks"Amb.Buses other Light Duty 4x2Light Duty 4x4Medium DutyHeavy Duty

19 different vehicle type categories...how much more do you need?

which are broken down into categories of leased or owned....foriegn or domestic. by law enforcement...By which dept or agency and how much spent for vehicles...the cost per mile...for agency owned, GSA fleet vehicles
and leased vehicles..cost of foreign and domestic vehicles...also by cost per mile..total miles driven..5 separate categories on this one and fuel consumption...3 categories

In Essence the GSA define the whole process out...it is very definitive...but I feel ya ...you are trying to say the Govt has no clue on where it's money goes...which would be true under the Obama administration which has clearly upped its limo fleet by 73 percent.

Great! You've found the breakdown. Now, find the definition. It's buried in the FARs.

And, yes, I have dealt with the FARs for years. Some of the descriptions can be rather broad.

Now, as to your contention that this is President Obama's issue (still a lie):

Much of the 73 percent increase—111 of the 174 additional limos—took place in fiscal 2009, more than eight months of which corresponded with Obama’s first year in office. However, some of those purchases could reflect requests made by the Bush administration during an appropriations process that would have begun in the spring of 2008.

Seeing as you have such a tremendous depth of understanding regarding the FARs - please lecture us on how the government goes about cancelling purchase contracts and what the costs that could be involved are (up to the total value of the contract, btw).

Again, you want to try to claim that these are stretch limousines. They are not. The US government has a few for foreign dignitaries which are owned by the Dept of State. The new purchases authorized since 2005 have generally been replacements for the Law Enforcement agencies, but don't let your faux outrage get in the way of the lie that it's all Obama's fault.

Glad to see that the CONs can get worked up over their own spending to the tune of $2 million, or so. Never let it be said that they weren't worried about real money, like billions for farm and oil subsidies to large corporations which don't even pay US income taxes.

I guess malcontentious didn't read this analysis...

"The State Department in a statement said its limos are deployed by overseas diplomats and in the United States by Secretary of State Clinton and 'distinguished foreign visitors,'" the story states. "Many of the limos in its fleet are armored to protect against attack. The department said its Obama-era increase in armored limos is 'both in proportion to the increased threat to diplomats serving overseas and is in proportion to the increase number of diplomats we have serving in high threat environments.' Appropriations documents indicate the State Department was engaged in a longer-term effort to increase the number of armored vehicles that would have stretched back to at least 2007."

In other words, some of the State Department increase has been in the works for at least two years prior to Obama taking office.

...But Bachmann's claim that "under Barack Obama the last two years the number of federal limousines for bureaucrats has increased 73 percent," is based on squishy figures from the GSA (according to the GSA itself). And it's also impossible to tell from the numbers exactly how many of the new "limousines" were ordered by the Obama administration, and how many were ordered by his predecessor. Given those qualifiers, we rate it Barely True.

              http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jun/27/michele-bachmann/michele-bachmann-claims-federal-limousines-73-perc/

I'm a poor boy, come to greatness. So, it follows that I cannot tell a lie.

Ooh I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don't-
I've come and gone and, ooh I love to sweep around the wide step,
cut a little swathe and lead the people on.

Now my good friends, it behooves me to be solemn and declare,
I'm for goodness and for profit and for living clean and saying daily prayer.
And now, my good friends, you can sleep nights, I'll continue to stand tall.
You can trust me, for I promise, I shall keep a watchful eye upon ya'll...

You would know what a puppet master is wouldn't you. Can you say George Soros. That's right they all have them the only difference is we have one puppet already being operated and the other puppets waiting their turn on stage. Puppet Master alright, puppet master indeed!

Igo - Oh yeah, the dreaded and feared George Soros. A guy with the major bucks who doesn't shrink back from saying what he thinks and supporting those who think likewise. As oposed to...the Koch Bros maybe? Hiding under their desks while they write the cghecks to the Tea Party? Not willing to acknowledge their John Birch Society roots?

The Palin debate chart is great. And it's the circular kind of talking that MB specializes in. She answers by using one or two words, but not addressing the topic, and not committing to anything. That whole thing about the SC litmus test. What a bunch of avoidance. The only thing I can't figure out if the whole nonsense spouting is a sign of just how dumb she is or if she's just so incredibly brilliant that she can always think the three steps ahead to set up the non-answers. Sort of a Gracie thing.

They won't be able to re-elect her, this time. Her name can only be on one line of the ballot. If another Republicon comes forward for her Congressional seat, she won't be able to be on the primary ballot. If (oh, please, oh, please) she gets the nomination, she cannot also run for her Congressional seat. Whatever happens, she's gone.

We don't need a limo count to know that the economy is sliding every day. Unemployment is still at least 9%, and after watching 60 minutes this evening I understand that the ranks of the homeless have swelled tremendously since Obama took office. Black male unemployment is at 15% under our first black president. You guys trash Bachman and the tea party, but I don't see how Bachman could do worse than Obama-Pelosi have done. All this bad news after a Democrat in the white house and a super majority in the congress.

I guess you haven't been paying attention, Bubba-939441...

For funding in the first category, there's a federal reporting system. Those who get funds must report how much they spend, and how many jobs are created or saved. According to the latest figures on the federal Recovery.gov website — just roll your mouse over Florida — the number of full-time equivalent jobs created or saved in the state just for the April to June quarter is 40,604. That number represents 79,365 actual workers, a state summary says.

While the reports don’t break out private sector jobs from public ones, it’s clear some of the jobs — and in some cases, most — end up with private sector contractors, said Winstead, special adviser to Gov. Charlie Crist on the economic stimulus. He produces the summary of Recovery Act information for the state. A table listing 2,951 full-time equivalent jobs created or saved under the U.S. Department of Transportation would largely represent private sector highway construction jobs, he said.

              http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2010/sep/17/rick-scott/rick-scott-says-stimulus-create-single-private-job/

We visited the website of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, one of our favorite federal number crunchers. On July 2, 2010, the bureau released its monthly Current Employment Statistics Highlights report. On page five, the report contains statistics on seasonally adjusted private sector employment going back to January 2000. Geithner specifically referenced the last six months of the current year, so that's where we focused our attention.

In December 2009, the private sector shed 83,000 jobs. That was significantly smaller than the average drop for the year, since the private-sector employment losses averaged 388,000 per month during 2009, according to the report. And so we come to 2010. How have we fared for the past six months? Here's a quick monthly summary of jobs added:

              January: 16,000
              February: 62,000
              March: 158,000
              April: 241,000
              May: 33,000
              June: 83,000

Data for the month of July --which wasn't over when Geithner spoke -- won't be released until August, so that's the most up-to-date data available. The report notes that data for the two most recent months are preliminary. But unless there's an unusually big after-the fact correction for either month, it's pretty clear that Geithner was correct. We've seen positive job growth in the private sector from January to June. We rate this True.

              http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/jul/27/timothy-geithner/geithner-claims-us-had-six-months-positive-job-gro/

Private employers added 67,000 jobs, more than the 40,000 expected by economists, with gains in construction, health care and professional and business services. The loss of 54,000 jobs overall was more modest than the 105,000 economists anticipated.

Equally heartening: Job losses for June and July were revised downward by 123,000 and private-sector job increases for that period were revised upward by 66,000.

Republicans continue to rail against the stimulus, even though economists agree that the program has created a significant number of jobs. Last week, the White House Council of Economic Advisers said the Recovery Act has saved or created 3.6 million jobs. A recent report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) also found that the stimulus “has increased the number of workers by between 1.2 million and 2.8 million” and projects that “3.7 million jobs could be attributed to the stimulus by the end of September.”

Bubba is just a GO(b)P cheerleader who never realized that Nancy isn't the speaker anymore, and continues with the same talking points (never failing to mention Pelosi), over & over again on every comment (no matter what the topic actually is.)

"We will lose on legislation. But we will win the message war every day, and every week, until November 2010," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., an outspoken conservative who has participated on the GOP message teams. "Our goal is to bring down approval numbers for [Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and for House Democrats. That will take repetition. This is a marathon, not a sprint"

So on a personal note, what do you guys/gals get paid anyway, I would love to have a part time gig working from home making money?¿? I am really interested just the basics, who do I contact, what is the pay scale, I know some put in a lot of hours, I don't like Pelosi, but doesn't it get boring saying the same things over and over again (Pelosi, Pelosi, Pelosi) no matter what the subject (especially now that she is not the speaker) and not having to ever think for yourself or say your own words, etc... Thanks

              http://hotair.com/archives/2010/10/25/video-pelosi-promises-no-new-deficit-spending-in-2007/

At the close of business on Jan. 4, 2007, Pelosi’s first day as speaker, the national debt was $8,670,596,242,973.04 (8.67 trillion), according to theBureau of the Public Debt, a division of the U.S. Treasury Department. At the close of business on Oct. 22, it stood at $13,667,983,325,978.31 (13.67 trillion), an increase of 4,997,387,083,005.27 (or approximately $5 trillion).

Pelosi, the 60th speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, has added more to the national debt than the first 57 House speakers combined.

Obama and Pelosi have failed. Let's give someone else a chance.

              @Bubba,

You think it's bad now? Put Bachmann in the WH so she can cut the corporate tax rate---not that most if any of the Fortune 50 pay anything now--- to 9% and then repeal the minimum wage. Add those two things to the Bush tax cuts (where the wealthy got most of the benefit) and this country will be toast. We'll be Sweden in the 1970s, where I'm told average peope were paying 70% and MORE in taxes.

Bachmann will give this country to Wall Street and the corporate elite. The government, meanwhile, still will need revenue and will get it from somewhere. Since the rich will own the government (not that they don't now, just not totally), the government's not gonna turn around and tax them. Biting the hand that feeds, and all that.

So who's left? The working man, that's who. In such a scenario, the working class would be, at best, little better than slaves. If a government's taking 7 out of every 10 dollars out of your paycheck before you even see it---and then telling you every April that you owe more---you're a slave to that government.

Yeah, I understand that I'm engaging in a bit of shrilly "what if" theorizing here. btw.

If you truly believe that Obama and Pelosi have failed, that's fine. I say perhaps you're right---and perhaps they would not have, had the GOP ever actually tried to work with them as opposed to digging in their heels and saying "NO" to everything so they could get back into power.

If you truly believe that someone else deserves a chance, that's fine too. Just pay very close attention to what those "someone elses" are saying. Bachmann is a wingnut who talks out of both sides of her mouth. This lady collected a cool quarter million in government handouts, and not that long ago. Maybe she's bummed out because she wants a nicer limo than she's got right now...?

1st link is Nancy's promise of no new deficit spending when she took the gavel.

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0CUcnRPSeg

And this is the result after 4yrs of Nancy and the democratic congress.

You all ways have to bring up Nancy, you have the hots for her don't you!

It had nothing to do with the rest of Congress did it? Or President Bush?

You sure seem like a lazy thinker, to blame all our problems on one or two democrats, and no one else?

So it all their fault, not the other democrats or the republicans or President Bush or President Obama. Just Obama or Pelosi

No with your thinking style I will do this, Its all Bubba's fault, no one else, You should have work harder to not to get Obama voted into office or worked harder and not have Pelosi to get re-elected.

Its settled then, its your fault...

I know the republican congress is corrupt, including the Tea Party Pols. So who are you going to replace them with? As long as the big lobbyist money is there, Congress will all ways be corrupt, who ever runs things..

What are you going to do, Just replace the corrupt people you don't like with the corrupt people you like?

Thats not going solve any problems, is it?

That just makes you just a corrupt as they are.....

Most people have known about Bachmann for years before they had ever even heard of our current President Obama. She has drawn attention to herself for years with her foolishness.

The same report, however, indicates that the term "limousine" is loosely defined, and could encompass everything from an armored vehicle to a sedan. "The categories in the Fleet Report are overly broad, and the term 'limousine' is not defined," GSA spokeswoman Sara Merriam told iWatch. "Vehicles represented as limousines can range from protective duty vehicles to sedans."

Oh! I just love that definition. So where do you suppose an armored vehicle might be in use?

The one thing republicans do well is take anything and make it into something different....What ever the government dose is some how bad and it's Obama's fault. Like he runs every department and knows what is happening.

And then complains that he is not doing his job. Hopefully he has more to do than decide every little thing that happens in some department.

Well, let's see...Lincoln first ran in 1860 and again in 1864...yep, that's it!

I could have actually supported Powell, but you're right, he's gone from the public arena. And I think of him as a democrat.

Now, now... Eisenhower wasn't bad and Teddy Roosevelt was actually quite good in many ways.

In reviewing previous comments, it is interesting how we too are falling into the trap to talk about Bachmann and not the question:

Bachmann, speaking during a Sunday morning appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," produced the 73 percent figure when asked about whether or not cuts for farm subsidies should be on the table for Congressional negotiators seeking to cut the federal budget.`

I'm sure the Iowa farmers still want an answer to that!

Her own family, as well as the Pauls, want answers to that. They all receive farm subsidies which they claim they are against, but for which they are required to apply.

I really like her statements regarding minimum wage,

Representative Michele Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican planning to seek the party’s presidential nomination, said she would stoke U.S. economic growth by cutting taxes on corporate income and capitol gains and considering elimination of the minimum wage.

                        From the original (inaccurate) report:

Much of the 73 percent increase—111 of the 174 additional limos—took place in fiscal 2009, more than eight months of which corresponded with Obama’s first year in office. However, some of those purchases could reflect requests made by the Bush administration during an appropriations process that would have begun in the spring of 2008.

The FY 2009 budget was the last Bush budget. While 8 months were in the first year of the Obama Administration, the increase was due to prior year purchase authorizations (as far back as 2005). Bachmann or her staff of fools could have, and should have, vetted the information. Their lack of diligence in checking even these readily available facts should disqualify them from an unwelcome occupation of the White House. Besides, the woman is a blithering idiot.

Isn't this your REAL beef here? You're a liberal and she is a social Conservative....(i can't really say fiscal Conservative)

No, I was quite accurate in what I said. She claimed that The Lion King was gay propaganda, she keeps claiming that eliminating the minimum wage will create jobs, she claims Nobel laureate scientists support intelligent design, she said that Terry Schaivo was "healthy," but I think my favorite was when she compared visiting Iraq to visiting the Mall of America.

I must have missed all that in the seeded article because all i remembered reading was about the limos and her feelings on gay marriage. (As a libertarian i also reject her social conservativism.) Why not seed an article like any of the above instead of getting lost in the weeds about Limos?

they're not as current as, today, being happy she was announcing her Presidential aspirations in the home of John Wayne (oops, Gacy). Yep. She was happy she was formally announcing in the city that was the home of the Clown Killer.
