For coltripwired. I hate to admit this but I don't seem to have a copy of "Wondering Baby". I'll deal with that later. I posted "Jock-A-Mo" a few weeks back but it never made it to public viewing due to the old 3rd party rights match and stuff.
I had a passing acquaintance with Bobby Mitchell and I guess I could only describe him as "bitter" for the lack of recognition he received and in my opinion, justifiably so.
By the way, that's a photo of Sugar Boy and the Sugar Lumps.

This track was a UK No.1 for three weeks in 1960, it reached No.3 in the US. Jimmy Jones (b. 1937 Birmingham, Alabama) is still highly regarded as an influential character on modern music. His use of falsetto voice in R&B/pop directly influenced Del Shannon, who in turn influenced The Bee Gees disco orientated tracks. There is a great video of Jimmy Jones performing his other well known hit 'Handy Man' live and it shows why people warmed to him; a real charismatic entertainer and showman. There is good info about him on the internet also - http://www.jimmyjones.com/Life.htm
This video collage was lovingly put together by Orleans' alumnus drummer (and all around good guy) Charlie Shew, to whom we are extremely grateful. Set to the hauntingly beautiful "Time Passes On", written by John and Johanna Hall and recorded for Orleans' "Let There Be Music" album of 1975, it depicts many of the happier moments in this gifted musician's life.
Larry was well-loved and highly-respected as a great musician --- multi-instrumentalist player, singer, songwriter, band leader, producer --- but also as a brother, father and friend. He was also a great humanitarian activist with a big heart.
Larry left us suddenly on July 24th, 2012. We who are left behind miss him. Although we know life is eternal and he has merely changed venues, we mourn the loss to this earthly plane. We grieve. We survive the shock. We honor his memory by keeping on keeping on.
With the return to the fold of co-founder John Hall, re-joining co-founder Lance Hoppen and mainstays Lane Hoppen, Charlie Morgan and Dennis "Fly" Amero, Orleans has committed itself to (at least) finish the 2012 calendar of scheduled performances. What happens after that is an open question.
If you wish to honor Larry's memory, you may do so by making a donation to your local food bank in his name, as feeding the hungry was one of his passions. He would like that very much.

Miss Kitty Wells sings her big 1952 #1 hit 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels' at the Grand Ole Opry. The songwriter was Jimmy D. Miller.
Lyric:
As I sit here tonight the jukebox playing
The tune about the wild side of life
As I listen to the words you are saying
It brings mem'ries when I was a trustful wife
It was't God who made honky tonk angels
As you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong
[ fiddle ]
It's a shame that all the blame is on us women
It's not true that only you men feel the same
From the start most ev'ry heart that's ever broken
Was because there always was a man to blame
It was't God who made honky tonk angels
As you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong
Brian Hibbard (26 November 1946 -- 18 June 2012) was a Welsh actor and singer, best remembered as the lead vocalist in the original Flying Pickets . Hibbard was born into a working-class family in Ebbw Vale and had a socialst upbringing. He performed two concerts at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre when touring with the Flying Pickets, and formed a picket line on Top of the Pops at the height of the miners' strike (1984-1985).
Following the group's success in the early 1980s, Hibbard went on to pursue a career as a television actor, appearing in Coronation Street as garage mechanic Doug Murray, in Emmerdale as Bobby-John Downes,

I started a joke,
which started the whole world crying,
but I didn't see that the joke was on me, oh no.
I started to cry,
which started the whole world laughing,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.
I looked at the skies,
running my hands over my eyes,
and I fell out of bed,
hurting my head from things that I'd said.
Til I finally died,
which started the whole world living,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.
I looked at the skies,
running my hands over my eyes,
and I fell out of bed,
hurting my head from things that I'd said.
'Til I finally died,
which started the whole world living,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was one me.

"Bustin' Loose" was a hit song for Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers. Released from the LP of the same name in late 1978, it spent four weeks at the top of the R&B singles chart in early 1979 and peaked at number thirty-four on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Chuck Brown (August 22, 1936 -- May 16, 2012) was a guitarist and singer who was affectionately called 'The Godfather Of Go-go'. Go-go is a subgenre of funk music developed in and around Washington, D.C. in the mid- and late 1970s. While its musical classification, influences, and origins are debated, Brown was widely regarded as the fundamental force behind the creation of go-go music. Brown's musical career began in the 1960s playing guitar with Jerry Butler and The Earls Of Rhythm, joining Los Latinos in 1965. "Bustin' Loose" has been adopted by the Washington Nationals baseball team as its home run celebration song, and was interpolated by Nelly for his 2002 number one hit "Hot In Herre". He has influenced other go-go bands such as Big G & The Backyard Band, Rare Essence, Experience Unlimited (EU), Little Benny & The Masters, and Trouble Funk. Brown was considered a local legend in Washington, D.C., and has appeared in television advertisements for the Washington Post newspaper and other area companies. He received his first Grammy Award nomination in 2010 for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for "Love" with Jill Scott and Marcus Miller, from the album "We Got This". Since the early 1970s, Brown exclusively played a blonde Gibson ES-335, which is affectionately referred to as 'Blondie'. Chuck Brown died on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Hospital of multiple organ failure including heart failure. He was 75 years old. Several weeks prior to his death, he had postponed and canceled shows due to hospitalization for pneumonia. The man behind the legend.Johnny wrote over 100 songs; Many covered by Big Tom
Pianist "Big Walter" Price was born in a town called Gonzales just east of San Antonio. However he spent much of his life in Houston where he was revered as a blues legend. The song was written by Walter himself and Eddie Shuler (though the latter could have just been adding his name to the credits as was the accepted practice at the time). It's a boisterous Texas shuffle with riffing horns though with less emphasis on guitar than usual.
"The Story of Goldband Records: Eddie's House Of Hits" is a collection issued by Ace Records (UK) which attempts to give an introduction to Goldband Records, owned and run by Eddie Shuler, out of Lake Charles, Louisiana. It was opened by Eddie in 1952 and has continued ever since. However its heyday was very much during the fifties and early sixties when Eddie achieved strong regional success with a number of singles plus one or two which went on to wider success. Goldband recorded virtually any music that was popular in the area which was a pretty wide list including blues, R&B, country, rockabilly, other forms of rock'n'roll, swamp pop and cajun. Given that we are talking SE Louisiana many of these distinctions often blurred together and some individual artists would skip between these genres seemingly at will.

This for you Mr Peaston and give thanks for sharing your gift with the world I know you will get your blessings. 1957 -- February 1, 2012 in St. Louis, Missouri
"In the late 1980s, David Peaston, a former schoolteacher, won several competitions on the Showtime at the Apollo television show, winning over the audience with a powerful rendition of "God Bless the Child". In this clip he is seen performing "Everything Must Change".
Peaston's friend, singer, Cheryl Pepsii Riley, shared her condolences on Mr Peaston's passing on Facebook via News One:
I'm so saddened by the news, my friend David Peaston has passed. This hurts so much. He had an Incredible Voice and the Best sense of Humor! David Peaston and I were the only secular artists doin Gospel plays in the beginning. I first met him on the show "Momma Don't". And then we did Several other shows together, So we became Road Dawgs! :-) We could not see each other for years and get together... and it be like we just saw each other the day before. Just picked up from where we left off. He was such a Beautiful person. So much Fun, and a Really Good Man! Such a Talent, but even more than that, He was a Friend! My Dear, Crazy, Wonderful, David... Or Unka Peasters as I called him... and he called me Tabby (from a show we did and I played his daughter), You Will Be Missed and I Shall NEVER EVER Forget You! RIP DAVID PEASTON, I Love You!

Fred Milano, who made rock and roll history on doo-wop hits with Dion and the Belmonts in the 1950s and continued to perform while starting a late-in-life career with the New York City Department of Correction, has died. He was 72.
Milano died Sunday, 1st of January 2012, three weeks after his lung cancer was diagnosed, said Warren Gradus, who joined the Belmonts in 1963. Milano lived in Massapequa, on Long Island, and died in a hospital, Gradus said.
Dion DiMucci, the lead singer who left the Belmonts in 1960, said on his Facebook page Tuesday, "May he rest in peace and rock on in heaven."
Milano and three friends from the Bronx formed the Belmonts in the mid-1950s, borrowing their name from the borough's Belmont Avenue. They became Dion and the Belmonts after DiMucci joined in 1958.
Milano sang tenor on hits like "A Teenager in Love" and "Where or When."
The Belmonts continued to perform and to record with different lineups after DiMucci left for a solo career. Gradus said Milano was performing with the Belmonts at casinos and other venues just weeks ago.
There was strife between DiMucci and Belmonts members, who were not pleased when DiMucci was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without them in 1989.
In his Facebook posting, DiMucci said Milano "was very savvy with harmonies" and added, "We had our ups and downs through the years but that's how things go in families, even rock-and-roll families."
Milano went back school in middle age and joined the Department of Correction in 2003.
In his position as a legal coordinator at the Rikers Island jail complex, he helped inmates research their cases and taught a legal research class, said Karen Powell, director of law libraries for the department.
Powell said Milano had more energy than colleagues two decades younger and "was a person who really loved life."
"We'd know it was him coming through the door because we'd hear him singing and skipping up the stairs," Powell said.
Milano is survived by his wife, Lynn, two children and 10 grandchildren.

Martin Luther King's Address at March on Washington
August 28, 1963. Washington, D.C.
When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
